Open vs Enclosed Auto Transporting

Open Auto Transporting or Enclosed Auto Transporting?

If you are planning to have your car transported, you might be deciding whether you should go with open auto transporting or enclosed auto transporting services. Below we will describe the difference, as well as the pros and cons for each.

First, let’s talk about open auto transporting. When you think about open auto transporting services, imagine the car carriers that you see on the road, hauling cars on vehicles that involve a two-level trailer with rows of cars on the top and bottom with no sides or roof on the trailer. Open auto transportation offers a lower priced shipping option and is the most economical way to ship a vehicle. It  also offers better visibility for the driver to inspect your vehicle. Although it offers better visibility, it also makes your vehicle exposed to the elements and provides less protection to road debris.

How about enclosed auto transporting? Well, enclosed auto transporting services are quite the opposite of open auto transportation. When your vehicle is being transported, it is being transported in an enclosed trailer. This provides protection from outdoor elements including wind, rain, hail, snow, and dust. This is recommended for high-end and/or classic vehicles that need the added protection that enclosed auto transportation has to offer. Although it adds protection, because your vehicle is enclosed, it hinders the driver to make routine inspections during transit. Plus, using enclosed auto transportation is significantly more expensive than open auto transportation.
